DJB

As Dr. James, the lead vocalist of DJB Rock Band, I've had an incredible journey with music. My passion for music blossomed during my high school years in the early 90s, and forming the band Nplaim Dej allowed me to connect with our community by performing locally in Long Beach, Orange County, and San Diego. It was truly an honor to share the stage with legends such as Lis Toj, Voltage, and Tub Muaj Koob from Laos.

However, due to the demands of my career, I had to set aside my passion for music and pursue my undergraduate degree in North Carolina in the mid-1990s. Music took a back seat for a while, but it never left my heart.

Amidst the peak of the pandemic, music became my solace during lockdowns. As a medical doctor, I aimed to unite our community in Minnesota and combat the hopelessness and uncertainty brought about by COVID-19. This journey led me to embrace Rock music and establish the band DJB Rock.

DJB Rock is a group of six incredibly talented members. Fong Vang, our lead guitarist and DJB album producer, brings his expertise from his time with Paradise and Dheeg. Steve Ibanez, an accomplished talent in rock and roll, serves as one of our lead guitarists, having previously played for American bands. Bee Thao, a longstanding figure with the Sounders, provides wisdom and guidance to the band. Lastly, Richie, our drummer, exudes passion when he takes his place behind the drum set.

Since February 2022, DJB has been dedicated to supporting young Hmong artists and models, a commitment showcased in our recent concerts. We proudly headlined with Huab, Win, Destiny, Vichai, Kou Vajlootsua, Da Players, and Lynda Tran. We are thrilled about the future and eagerly anticipate more collaborations with Hmong bands and artists.
